粉末涂料是一种含有100% 固体分、以粉末形态、利用静电吸附涂装的涂料，主要由树脂、固化剂、颜料、填料和助剂等组成，它与一般溶剂型涂料和水性涂料不同，不是使用溶剂或水作为分散介质，而是借助于空气作为分散介质。因此，粉末涂料有机溶剂（VOC）等于零，既节省了大量资源，又避免了有机溶剂光化学反应和毒性所造成的大气污染，也避免了废水处理等问题，是符合环境保护要求的理想的涂料品种。
按粉末涂料成膜物质的固化机理或固化方式分类，有热塑型、热固型、辐射固化、辐-热双重固化。
按照粉末涂料的用途分类，主要有装饰性涂料和功能性涂料。装饰性粉末涂料可形成平面、木纹、砂纹、皱纹、皮纹、金属闪烁、渐变色、多色花、透明等各种不同纹理和特殊效果，其中平面型涂料可以有标准、无光、消光、平光、高光等不同光泽度效果；功能性粉末涂料主要有聚酯、富锌、耐候、超耐候、氟碳（PVDF）、自清洁、隔热、耐高温、防静电和阻燃等各种不同功能效果。Powder coating is a kind of coating with 100% solid content, powder form and electrostatic adsorption.
